1993 feierte Asics die Einführung der Gel-Kayano-Reihe, die nach ihrem Designer Toshikazu Kayano benannt wurde. Im Jahr 2020 hat Asics also bereits die 27. Version auf den Markt gebracht! Mit dem Gel-Kayano 13 beendete Toshikazu Kayano seine Arbeit an der Gel-Kayano-Serie und übertrug die Verantwortung neuen Designern. Damals konnte sich Kayano seine Schuhe nicht außerhalb der Laufstrecken vorstellen, aber es schmeichelt ihm, dass sich die Retros seiner Laufschuhreihe mittlerweile fest im Lifestyle-Segment etabliert haben. Der Gel-Kayano 14, der erste 'Nicht-Toshikazu'-Kayano, stellt einen wichtigen Meilenstein in der Geschichte der Gel-Kayano-Reihe dar. Die Neuauflage behält die Ausstattung der Zwischensohle und die GEL- Dämpfungstechnologie des Originalmodells bei. Leichte Anpassungen wurden an der Passform vorgenommen. Mit dieser neuen Version trifft Asics perfekt den Zeitgeist. Der Schichtaufbau aus Kunstleder und Mesh ist typisch für die populären Läufer des Jahrtausends.
